installation problem right from the off...

Installation fails when tryingto load the installer componentsfrom the CD.

I performed the CD Integrity check and it was fine.

    What next?

How does it fail? Does it just freeze at some point? Which point? Does it give you an error message? What does the error message say?

I get through the Language and Keyboard selection stage.

Then it scans hardware to find CD ROM.

Then when trying to load the installer components, the screen goes red, tells me there was a problem loading the installer components.

It is at this point that the auto installation is stopped, and it gives me the chance to try that stage again or skip it.

OK. I discovered that it was a problem only happening if installation is started from the gui installer.

I pressed <escape> and typed install at the prompt, and all went fine.

OK... Don't ask why, but I needed to install again to a fresh partition. Install is failing at the same point.

I even bunt the image at the lowest speed to no avail.

        Please help!

If your prvious CDR had the same md5 sum as the iso, (which you said it did), burning another one at lower speed wouldn't help. I think the problem is in the way your system is setup. Did you try starting the install manually, the way you did before? What happened?

It failed at the same point as the GUI installer.

ie. the point of loading the installer components. The Laptop setup has not changed, so do not know why it worked before and not now.

I'm just guessing here. It might be that there's still a linux partition on the hardrive. Do you have a Partition Manager that can tell you how your drive is partitioned. Personally, before I try to install Linux on a dual boot system, I always use a Windows defragger, to minimize the actual space windoze takes up on the hardrive. Then I use a windoze partion manager to reduce the size of the windows partition and leave me free space for linux. I'm not sure how the ubuntu installer works, so I'm not sure what happens when you try to install on a hardrive with no free space.
