    dual booting vista with kubuntu

just installed kubuntu on my laptop (hp dv6000) and it runs fine but i want to still have the option to either boot to kubuntu or vista on startup!

how can i enable this, i've used ubuntu before and the booting options seems to be loaded by default!

do i just fiddle with the /boot/grub/menu.list file? if so how to i edit it?

    thanks

You might have a look at this thread:

    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...2.msg79430#new
(Feisty > Installation and Boot > Vista then Kubuntu)

    Or, more simply:

It sounds like you want GRUB to run the boot show for you. If so, go to the How-To at
How To GRUB Methods - Toolkit
    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081671.0

and look at the part about how to re-install (or install) GRUB (with the root -- setup -- quit commands). You will want to install grub to the MBR of the hard drive (hd0, 0), I think it should be. From your description, sounds like this will be doable and easy.

Re: dual booting vista with kubuntu

I just added some stuff on dual booting Vista and Linux to the following How-To:

How To GRUB Methods - Toolkit
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081671.0
Scroll down to July 17, 2007.

(I wrote a conceptual summary of methods so you know what’s involved and what your choices are, and I refer you there to an excellent, step-by-step tutorial.)
