I would like to dual boot Vista and Kubuntu on my laptop.However I dont want GRUB to overwrite the MBR.I have downloaded the Kubuntu Installation DVD where do I go to to so that I install GRUB in the root partition.Do I install in text mode or use the Graphical Interface

Hello,
GRUB has stages. Stage 1 must install in MBR. Stage 2 is located usually on the root partition of the operating system you install (in this case Kubuntu). You should not worry about this, though.
For most users, the installation of GRUB is a fairly automated process.
Alternatively, you can add Kubuntu to Vista bootloader...
