Hard drive problem on Dell Inspiron 1501

I am trying to install but cannot recognise my hard drive (sata model), I have tried adding "pci=nomsi" (without the quotes) but just get a message that this command is not recognised. I have the same problem when trying to install Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS

There's been vast improvement of the (K)Ubuntu installer since Dapper. If you don't mind the time it takes, you could try it with Feisty (7.04) -- my bet is that Feisty will recognize your SATA drive. If so, then you would have a decision to make ...
