Adept Manager is locked in Feisty

I have Feisty installed, but when I try to get into the Adept manager, it tells me it is locked. That another version of apt-get or aptitude or Adept is probably using it. I have rebooted multiple times, but it still tells me that.

How can I install anything if this is locked? How can I unlock it?

in konsole, type

sudo dpkg --configure -a

This seems to happen to me every time I use Adept. The posted solution works. But I wonder what causes the problem and whether there is a more permanent solution?

This doesn't seem to happen when you use Synaptic instead of adept. No idea why.
