    Install Questions?

Hey everyone, I have two HDD's a 112GB, and a 7.34GB hdd, and I have Windows XP Home installed on the 112GB, and I want to install Kubuntu on the smaller HDD, and set up a good bootloader so I can choose between the two when I boot up the PC, any links to tutorials or explanations are welcome

    thanx in advance

You shouldn't need a tutorial, the installer should pick up your windows installation and set up grub properly for a dual-boot. Just keep your eyes open on installation to make sure you install kubuntu on the right drive (and don't format/repartition your win drive )

Linux will name the disks hda and hdb.

Presumably you have the small one as slave, which will then be hdb.

Select this to erase and use entire disk when asked. Let the boot loader be installed on MBR (Master Boot Record).

Take a backup of Windows data first. See if you need to export bookmarks, mail adresses, cookies etc to backup and import in Linux.

i think that depends on which IDE cable it is on because i have a computer with a HDD and DVD-ROM drive on primary and a HDD on secondary and the 2 hdds are called hda and hdd.
i think i saw hdb as my dvd-rom drive....

if you know which ide cables your disks are on and whether they are master or slave theres less of a chance youll screw up the partitoining.
i know which ones mine are because i built my computer from spare parts.

        466mhz intel Celeron CPU
        256Mb SDRAM
        S3 Trio 3d/2x Graphics
        2 40GB Hard disks
        DVD-ROM Drive

it runs Kubuntu quite well...... when it wants to :P
