Trouble with video

I installed Kubuntu 6.10 on Unbuntu server. I have a Compaq with i810 onboard video. I have run sudo dpkg-reconfig xserver-xorg but the desktop does not finish loading. It reports:
(EE) I810(0): No valid modes found
(EE) Screens found, but none have a valid configuration.

I'm not sure that I have the PCI address set right. How do you set the address for the onboard chip and not a PCI slot? The default was PCI:0:1:0, and I left it at that. I did get something to come up when I tried VGA, but the resolution was stuck at 640x480 and I got an error that said that kstartupconfig did not load.

Thank you, I found that after I posted here, but I'm still having problems. I used lspci to find out that the address for my video is 0:0:0. I ran dpkg-reconfigure and changed it, but the error still reports 0:1:0. That's as far as I got last night.

hmm, what if you ctr-alt-f1; shut down kdm
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
and then
sudo Xorg -configure?

This is a new install. I've never got the desktop started yet. noob here. I don't know what xorg -configure will do. I'll have to research that and try again this evening. This pc is at home.

apparently there is no such command. Perhaps you meant
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg? I tried that already.
