I have a hauppauge hvr 1600 TV card, which, last time I checked, wasn't compatable with MythTV. This is a bummer, because the only thing still tying me to windows is the media center application. Has any solution been worked out to be able to use this video card with a dvr type program in linux? Or am I stuck with windows?

The short answer is, yes, you are stuck with Windows for the time being. I'm sure support will probably be there, eventually...
One thing to note: If you bought this thinking it was a 150 (Hauppauge shipped some 1600s out in 150 boxes), I have heard they will exchange it for a true 150, which *will* work under Linux.
