    Adept/add remove programs-security related

I installed Ubuntu, during the install, it stated that it could not find the security updates, or something, so i clicked OK (as that was the only option given) then in Ubuntu any of the add/remove program features did not work,

so i got Kubuntu, and same basic thing- i installed with duel boot

i also dont know how to edit my sources.list because it tells me only the owner can do that, but i am the owner... help?

computer is an INSIGNIA model computer

    60 Gig hard drive
    512 ram

    About sources.list:

Have you tried Alt+F2 -> kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list -> asks password...

    Note
Backup sources.list before you edit it. kate make only one backup automatically (sources.list -> sources.list~).

There is also Ubuntu sources.list generator:
With this generator you can create your own custom sources.list from various available sources. It takes only two simple steps.

Lot of good advices (How To):
    Ubuntu Linux Resources
    http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/
    What is this?
It's a collection of tutorials and random other pages that will help Ubuntu users.
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?
    1. Thread: Please explain how to access old kubuntu forum posts
    2. Thread: Lost Information

The sources.list looks fine, did you remember to click 'Fetch Updates' to refresh the package lists?

EDIT: Ah you're using the Adept Installer (Add/remove programs). To refresh the package lists, start adept_manager and click 'fetch updates' or run 'sudo apt-get update' in the konsole.

Hmm, looks like a problem connecting to the repositories, are you able to access the internet normally?

One thing you could try is to temporarily switch to another repository mirror (in case there is a problem in the 'us' repos)
