Two newbie questions - change GRUB menu / change icon size in KDE taskbar

    Hi,

    I have two newbie questions

    first,
grub displays four options for linux and one option for Windows XP. From what I can gather the linux options are repeated (there are two options for booting kubuntu, and two options for booting kubuntu in 'safe mode'). Is there anyway to erase the double entries - or does it really matter?

    second,
the icons in my taskbar (kmenu, konquerer, firefox, etc...) seem to be oversized, is there any way to make the icons smaller?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Usually it doesn't matter but if you want you can remove some, for example :
if you can start well the latest kernel, so you're free to delete the previous one, by deleting it with adept (or whatever tool like aptitude, apt-get, synaptic...)
But for me it doesn't really matter, it's just up to you if you mind about it...

About changing icon size, you can change size in systemsettings :
    look&feel > Appearance > Icons > Advanced

    Hope it helps

      Hey

thanks re: the dual boot - I was worried that there were two systems involved and that they could conflict with each.

Regarding the icons in the panel bar - the <<look&feel > Appearance > Icons > Advanced>> does not work. I am able to change the size of all the icons EXCEPT those in the panel - the option to change size is shaded out...

You're right, didn't check til there...
Anyway, I'm usually changing the size of the taskbar to really smaller and then get smaller icon.
        To do this :
right click on it > Configure panel > In size, select tiny (it's really small you will see)

          hey

          Thanks, that worked well!

Now, just need to figure out how to get the taskbar on the side of my screen and have everything arranged vertically...

          any ideas?

            Hi,

Yes it's possible, two solutions :
            - take it by the mouse on the bar where it's empty and move it to the side
            - Right click on the taskbar, Configure Panel > In position, change the layout...

            Cheers

              hey

It worked a bit... messy though, I had the change the behaviour / text sizes of the items displaying on the task bar manually. I'm now treading *very* carefully about adding new items to the bar...

              Thanks for the help
