Video cards: The good, the bad, the ugly?

Who have you had the best functionality from when it comes to video cards?

I've heard good and bad things from both nVidia and ATI, so I'm not sure anymore who to go with. Do they both support OpenGL, or at least have linux drivers?

I have used both, I had an ATI Radeon 9600se 128MB AGP and when I tried the drivers for ATI, I jacked up the xorg.config settings and had to remove it all, I popped in my new e-VGA AGP 256MB eGeforce 6200 in and it just worked flawlessly in edgy without any mods! So yeah nVidia!

My experience ATI is the bad and ugly. :-) Once you find the right Linux driver it will run OK - but if you install the wrong driver the system is borked. They have 5 million drivers is the problem.

Nvidia has 2, yes exactly 2 drivers. One for old legacy cards and one for the newer cards. Automatix has an install script built into it that worked fine for me.
