    ext3 partition not detected

    I need help for what may be a relatively simple problem and will give thanks for all replies to this post.

    My comp is... Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7310G

    I am using Kubuntu Edgy which I installed through the repositories after installing Ubuntu Edgy ( I did a complete install for I didn't want Windows anymore) with a live cd. Before I installed Kubuntu, Ubuntu allowed me to access the file systems on my notebook by way of cicking 'places' then 'file system. After installing the KDE meta package, however, the route to my file system has disappeared. When I click on 'places', 'filesystem' in Ubuntu I only get a 'cd rom' icon. Likewise, in Kubuntu, when I click on 'media', I am only presented with a 'cd rom' icon. Strange eh?

    I can, therefore, only access the filesystem by way of a drop down menu in Konquerors address bar after typing '?'.

    Is this typical of Kubuntu?

    sudo fdisk -l

    gives me...

    [i]Disk /dev/hda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

    Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/hda1 * 1 9565 76830831 83 Linux
    /dev/hda2 9566 9729 1317330 5 Extended
    /dev/hda5 9566 9729 1317298+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris

    and cat fstab opens...

    # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
    #
    # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
    # /dev/hda1
    UUID=10fe8008-d8bb-4164-a9d1-5f97cd05964b / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
    # /dev/hda5
    UUID=6c3f209a-7dfe-474d-8cda-e46d59332897 none swap sw 0 0
    /dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

    I apologise in advance if I am missing something really simple. I am relatively new to the whole Linux thing though and don't want to make any fatal errors by playing about with my root directory.

    Again, any help will be appreciated.

    Peace

    klittzzer
