    Same question, new approach

Ok, so i have the standard Broadcom+HPdv5000+Linux = no wireless issue. Well im tired of fighting to get it working. I am going to purchase a wireless pcmcia wireless card, but before I make this leap and spend cash on one, i need to know what ones people are currently using so best to choose the right option. If I could get some feed back, all Im looking for is a nice plug and play (tired of all the configuration after a year of fighting off and on with my wireless card) that the wonderful hardware support that Kubuntu has in it. any help is appreciated. 8)

I don't know if you have fixed your problem yet, but I have a Compaq V5000 with broadcom BCM4318 wireless. I followed the instructions posted somewhere here (search for your chipset) (lspci will tell you what it is) if it is the same as mine those instructions WILL work if you follow them to the letter. It shows how to use either the BCMxx drivers or ndiswrapper. Only use one, otherwise the modules will interfere with each other and not work.

If you decide to buy another card, Orinoco based cards seem to just work according to the forums. I can't tell you wich card to buy as I have no experience with them and manufacturers use different chipsets between models (and sometimes even in the same model line). A google search for Orinoco should provide a list of cards.

      Hope this helps.
