Re: No sound with Kubuntu
You need to have various multimedia codecs and libraries installed
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
this link will explain why and what you need, there are some Kubuntu specific things there, so you don't have to install everything there unless you run Ubuntu as well.

Re: No sound with Kubuntu
My wife and I have a related problem -- programs don't seem to release the sound card/driver, so to switch which program can generate sound we have to log out and log back in. Two separate machines, both Athlon 64 running in 32-bit mode. Hers is an nForce4 motherboard sound card, mine is an Intel ICH motherboard sound card. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim
