    SATA DRIVE NOT DETECTED

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently I added a SATA drive (160 GB) and the Kubuntu Dapper installer did not fine the drive. Only the primary IDE HDD is detected. This is the case with Debian,PCLOS etc.
Only Zenwalk and Mandriva Free 2007 detected the drive correctly.
How to make Kubuntu detect thew new SATA drive ?

I am using AMD 3000+ and Asus A8V-VM mother board.

My little bits of experience in Edgy indicate that IDE and SATA drives do not always play nice together, expecially if you try to control how GRUB is installed and configured. Here are other discussions on this problem:

in the BIOS make sure that scsi/sata is the first boot device
also enable the on board raid controller

      disconnect the IDE drive
then try the install of kubuntu on to the sata drive ...

you can reconnect the IDE drive after the install ...

throw the computer on linus' head and request a prompt fix

        heeheee kidding

        i meant to say, mark's head. .

        still kidding!

it is odd though.. some folks really do have both and they should play nice together.
