    kppp and no carrier

I just installed kubuntu on an old dell laptop. It does not have a ethernet port so I am using a pcmcia dial-up modem (it has a winmodem which I cannot find a driver for). After some futzing I got kppp to successfully query the modem. Set up an account with all the dns info and tried to dial out. Everything seemed to be working fine but got a no carrier message after hangup.
    Thanks in advance.

I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

you can try fixing the "auth" string that kppp uses or just use
      pon/poff.

i just posted another reply to same issue minutes ago.

anyway, use konsole (alt+F2) and run: sudo pppconfig
hopefully, your modem will be detected automagically,
then run through all the settings for your account and
save it--i use 'provider' since it is the default account name.

      next, run: pon
      this gets you online.

      next, run: poff
      this stops your connection.

old tools but they work so very well.

      hope this helps.

      wishing you well.
