    Resolution?

I figured this was the best place to put this.
My screen has a resolution of 1024x768 however kubuntu has set it at 640x480 and I can't change it back as the highest setting for it is 640x480. Anyone know how I can fix this. By the way i have 6.10 not 6.06, I don't know if that changes anything.

What video card? ATi, Nvidia, Intel ...

    and what type of monitor

ps you should post this in Edgy not Dapper if you're using 6.10.

      Re: Resolution?

This is greate.  I am having the same problem.  I am trying to install kubuntu on an Aspire 1640 and everything works fine, with the exception of the resolution. I wish I could increase the resolution.  Once I learn how to do it I will install kubuntu on this machine on this machine

It seems that we both have the same problem. I am looking forward for the answer.

          Re: Resolution?

Before messing around with xserver try to change the monitor type in the display setting. If the refresh rate of the monitor currently selected is not high enough you will get stuck to 640x480 to prevent damaging it. By changing the monitor type it will allows for higher resolution. If that does not work, then try reconfiguring X.

          Good luck.

            Re: Resolution?

I tried changing the monitor type before reading this again and now i can boot but not graphically. So i can log in but when i try to run the graphical desktop it gives me an error something like "could not determine display". Thanks for help so far.

EDIT: I reinstalled and problem solved. Waiting to see if it does it again . Thanks for all help though.

I also had the same problem
DO THIS IT WILL BE FINE

if u have ati chipset go to the ati site and download the latest version of
                ati-driver-installer-8.29.6.run
save it in your /tmp directory then on the console after going in that directory type the comand
                sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.26.18-x86.run
                then after that do

                aticonfig--initial

                everything will be fine then
