Screen Resolution on Armada E500

Hi,

I am using Compaq Armada E500. The screen has a resolution of 800x600 but it also capable of driving an external monitor at upto a resolution 1078x768. I was wondering how to setup the x-server files so that I select either option.

Sorry for the belated reply. I would fool around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf. First, I'd check whether the xserver recognizes the monitor by itself. I'd attach the external monitor and then run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" from an ALT-Fn console. If that didn't work, I'd add an additional monitor section to xorg.conf by hand giving the VertRefresh and HorizSync ranges for the external monitor, and another "screen" section using that monitor. However, I'm not sure how to get to pick the screen until after boot. I suppose you could try to make the external monitor the default and see what happens when it's not there.
