    can't mount DVD

i have a kubuntu 6.06 system with 1 cd/cdrecorder and 1 dvd, here are the dmesg:

    hdc: HL-DT-ST GCE-8400B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
    [17179576.584000] hdd: ASUS DVD-ROM E616, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
    [17179576.696000] hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, DMA
    [17179584.840000] hdd: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA(33)

    the CD (hdc) works properly.

the DVD player can't mount the DVD
    mount returns "no medium found"
    the ejects works,
    CD works (on the DVD)

    any idea?
    thanks

    Re: can't mount DVD

    Luca,

at first glance, I would say that it looks like at least two of your "record players" are supposed to be mounted to one and the same device ("hdd" is mentioned twice ...) - not really a good idea, to say the least

To (hopefully) help you on, I would like to have a look at your current partition table - therefore, would you please post the contents of the file /etc/fstab to this thread?

What I wanted to say: as from your original posting, two different (!) DVD-ROM drives are being mentioned as being related to hdd - which, as far as I know, simply won't work (from my opinion, the latter one should be related e.g. to hde - it's "one device, one node" of sorts, what I'm thinking of) ...

          Re: can't mount DVD

I think that your dmesg is ok (cd/dvd part).

          It tells that:

hdc is HL-DT-ST GCE-8400B and later it tells that it is 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, DMA.

hdd is ASUS DVD-ROM E616 and later it tells that it is 48X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA(33).

          Is this correct ?

          I have two cd/dvd drives (cd(rw) and dvd(rw))

          From my dmesg:

          hdc: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4165B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
          hdc: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM DVD-R-RAM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)

          hdd: Hewlett-Packard CD-Writer Plus 9100, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
          hdd: ATAPI 32X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 4096kB Cache, UDMA(33)

          From my fstab:
          /dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,atime,noauto,ro,dev,exec,suid 0 0
          /dev/hdd /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,atime,noauto,ro,dev,exec,suid 0 0

Do you have problems with multisession dvd ?

Can you try your dvd drive in a other computer ?

My LG gdr-8162b dvd-rom drive degraded to cd-rom. It did take couple days before i realized that it was hardware problem, not setting problem in the kubuntu.
