[solved]15.4" Widescreen and odd resolution problems

    Here is another one:

I've just installed Kubuntu on a Laptop. In 4 days (this is buisiness!!) the owner will have it back with a Dual-Boot that runs just fine. I've finished updating, upgrading and installing of what he needs or might not, but would be happy to have it. There's just one problem:

    This is the xorg.conf

    # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

But it runs in 1024x768!!! So any idea, where it is getting the other resolution from I've search the forum and found similar problems. Adding Option "ignoreEDID" "0" didn't work. Also adding BoardName "Intel 915" didn't work. Using System Settings to change from Plug and Play Monitor to any Flat Panel 1280x800 ended up in an xorg.conf with modlines containing every resolution one could dream of, but not 1280x800. Though I used this as Setting in System Settings . . . . >

Changing from 4:3 to 16:9 ended up in 800x600 with no higher res. available.

I looking forward to here whats wrong . . .

Did you add the 915 resolution package? That worked for me. Also, make sure that 915resolution starts when you boot up in Kubuntu. Plus I had to change the chipset in my System Settings to Intel, and change the ratio to widescreen.

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled over this package in Synaptic, I guess, 10 seconds after I launched this thread. I made an update of my xserver-xorg, then instaled the package run the tool and didn't need to make any further changes, like adding a init-script. I had no need to change the Chipset.

      So thanks again.
