    no signal from microphone

I have a problem, trying to make some recordings for simple messages (not to mind my guitar solos, Joe Satriani please step aside :P j/k), but the microphone does not get any signal at all. This used to work in windows.

In audacity I cannot even see that there is such a thing as a sound input device (it is simply not selectable).

How do I configure input from the microphone?

I am using 64 but Kubuntu 6.06 and I have an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with onboard realtek sound chips.

    Hello,

what kind of input Device are you using? Simply the Mic-In OnBoard? Have you tried Kmix, to proof wether this channel is switched on or not?

Yes, I would look in Kmix, in the Input tab, and make sure to click the dark green dot under the microphone icon to "light it up", and try again. You may also see a mic boost in the Switches tab, which may need to be turned on as well if the volume is not very high.
