    HP Photosmart 8100 - there but wont print

    I've spent a few happy hours understanding what to do. HP Device Manager now appears in my Kmenu.
    I've had to type in sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart (command not found) - so contrary to the instructions I put cupsys instead of cups and it seemed to work. Not that it made the printer work - printing gets sent to it but nothing happens.

    Running hplip again (about the 5th time) - and whatever they say, it appears you have to use custom install to get anywhere at all because it has to download umpteen extra things which it wont do unless you go via 'custom' install.
    OK - so now 'set up printer'.

    cups _printers = cups.getPrinters()
    File "/home/jon/hplip-1.6.9/prnt/cups.py" line 151, in getPrinters return cupsext.getPrinters()
    NameError: global; name 'cupsext' is not defined

    Help.........................

    LinuxPrinting.org if the First Resort for all printing problems in Linux. Please check their Photosmart 8100 page. You'll note that they advise that you use hpijs. Of course, you could try to fix the Python file with the error... But I'd just go with hpijs.
