I did a search and found no help. I am not the only one that can't play MIDI..

HELP please!!!!!

i.e. If I goto system settings/sounds multimedia.. and 'test' sound. Sound works, I click MIDI, and nothing. There is only one choice for the MIDI device, which is ALSA.. I tried all others, OSS.. ect... Nothing..

MIDI has worked on ALL other distros, so it's not my hardware..

Ideas? Prayers

If you have a SoundBlaster card, you should try to load the soundfonts first using asfxload and the soundfounts from the card installation CD (8MBGMSFX.SF2)

it's a via vt9237r 'ac 97' audio chipset.... I also have a soundblaster, that i tried to no avail... SBLive!.. If kubuntu can't run MIDI on a SBLive!, then the R&D team need to drink more. LOL!!!

Great distro, but no MIDI on AC 97 chips is bogus...

It doesn't work for me either. I tried TiMiDiTy, but when I shut down Dosbox it gives an error. Also, when I shut down the computer, it states 'fail' when trying to shut down TiMiDiTy.
