nvidia binary kernel module common files

what exactly are the nvidia binary kernel module common files used for, if anything, on a machine that has nothing nvidia related on it? Are they necessary on this particular machine?

i've been disabling it with bootup-manager and hadn't had any problems. now, when i start up, i get a multi colered screen for a little bit, then it pops up normal.

    thanks

If you don't have an nvidia display adaptor, you shouldn't need them. Just to verify though, take a look at your "/etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Look at the stanza called: 'Section "Device" ' and make sure that "driver" line does NOT say "nv" or "nvidia". You should also run the konsole command "lspci" and make sure that none of the lines say something like: "VGA compatible controller: NVidia Corporation NV## ...".
