    Is Enterprise Volume Management Needed

    Hi all,
I'm removing some of the programs installed at boot, in order to free up some memory.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, with my 40gig HD identified as /dev/sda.

Do I need any of the following
    evms
    mdadm-raid
    rsync

    Thanks,
    Jim A.

I'm reluctant to suggest that you remove any of them, because, in the case of EVMS and mdadm-raid, I'm not sure what they're supposed to be doing on a single disk laptop. I would definitely advise against removing rsync. The rsync protocol is used by a number of other programs, so you might wind up breaking something you never considered by removing rsync. Besides, removing all three will only save you a couple of MB.

If I wanted to clear out disk space, the first thing I would do would be to run "apt-get clean", but even thatl only saves about 100 MB.

Askrieger's advice is generally sound...if you don't know what it does or how to recover, don't do it

That said, I don't have any of those services running on my default runlevel (I've stripped as much as I can). Of course they may not be redundant on your setup.
