    Nvidia GForce 4400 & Kubuntu ... am I dreaming in 3D?

    Hello,

Searched through the forum looking for a similar problem but didn't find what I
    needed.
My apologies if this has already been answered.

I have attempted the "easy" scripted install of nvidia drivers on Kubuntu with
    no success.

After pouring through forum posts I found and followed the guide by Tseliot at:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Latest_Nvidia_Dapper

    using method one.

My card the 4400 is listed in step 7 of the problems section: "If you own a
    GeForce4 420/440 Go or a
GeForce4 MX 440 you should follow these steps:..."

I followed the steps for method one, and then the steps in part 7 of the problem
section. Reboot my computer and nothing, screen was dark, no login, no desktop,
nothing. Since I had just installed kubuntu I didn't really loose anything
(other then time) so I opted to reinstall the OS rather then troubleshoot my
graphics problem. I figured I'd get by with the generic driver,
and use XP for gaming and TV out.
However, in kubuntu, when browsing numerous web pages at a time, I'm
experiencing lag, and watching flash video (youtube.com etc.) has proved frustrating,
again due to lag. I assume that installing the hardware drivers will solve this problem,
however I've spent the lastfew days configuring kubuntu and therefore am not willing
to risk loosing another install, so:

Ideally someone has a 4400 and kubuntu working, and can give me some input. I
would also appreciate it if someone could direct me to another guide, post, wiki,
or anything that could help aid me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Solved!

    I retried the guide at:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Latest_Nvidia_Dapper

on my fresh install ... and it worked!

I noticed that this time around somethings were different.

I figure that screwing around with the install scripts messed me up initially.

Drivers appear to load properly now.

Thanks to anyone who read the my initial post!

    cheers.
