    Radeon 9250 128mb PCI en kubuntu 6

Hi everyone! I'm new with Linux and thus also Kubuntu but am very pleased with what I've been seeing so far!
There's just one problem with my installation, I can't configure my 9250 properly! I downloaded the drivers from www.ATI.com and installed them with no hastle logged in as root as mentioned in the instructions from www.ATI.com but when I try ATI control in the K-menu I receive the following:

Driver does not provide the FireGL X11 extensions!
Panel components will operate only partially.

here's what aticonfig -initial has to say:

    p35@p35-desktop:~$ aticonfig --initial
    Uninitialised file found, configuring.
    generate load 'dri' module
    Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Saved back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-0
aticonfig: Writing to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' failed. Bad file descriptor.

I was under the impression that the correct command should be:
aticonfig -initial       but that recieves this:

    p35@p35-desktop:~$ aticonfig -initial
Warning: Could not find configuration file
Please copy configuration file template to /etc/X11
    p35@p35-desktop:~$

    Can anyone help?
