    Irresponsive Keyboard

Hi. I'm running kubuntu 6.06 on my laptop, and i've had a recent bit of strangeness. after logging in while using the 686-smp kernel (pardon the terminology), my keyboard becomes irresponsive.

Touchpad works okay, but not even ctrl+alt+f* responds. 386 kernel works flawlessly.

    Any ideas?

    Re: Irresponsive Keyboard

Are you, in fact, running an smp capable Intel processor? In a konsole, run the command "cat /proc/cpuinfo". In the output, look in the "flags" line for ht. If you don't find it, you can't run an smp kernel, unless, of course, you're using a core duo processor, If you're running an AMD processor, you probably want a 686-k7 kernel.

In any event, I'm surprised that you got as far as you did, if you're running the wrong kernel. I would suspect that the keyboard problem has another cause, but I can't even guess what, at this point. Have you changed anything else besides the kernel?
