did you use sudo to mount it ?
also
lets try to replace this
/dev/hda1 /media/windows ntfs nls=utf8,umask=0222 0 0
by
/dev/hda1 /media/windows ntfs nls=utf8,umask=0222,allow_other 0 0
save - reboot - it should be ready

are you actually using ubuntu package for driver ?

i downloaded it from one of the links on the Ubuntu site for a mirror, i then go and place it on my MP3 player (i set it up as a flash drive) and then hooked it back in linux, copied the files to /home/alex and then used

sudo -i /home/alex/filename

And i will try the hard drive thing tomorow
