    No sound

I'm currently using the Kubuntu live CD trial and so far I like it. I want to install it permanently but I have a slight problem. There is no sound. I get no error messages of any kind, and KMix detects the nvidia nforce2 chipset. Any ideas on how to fix this?

The same thing happened a few months back when I tried Fedora. They suggested some solutions but none worked.

Is this the fault of my hardware? If so then why does it work under Windows, but not under Linux?

why does it work under Windows, but not under Linux?
The standard answer to that one is that the manufacturer gave M$ some proprietary information about her setup that was not made available to Linux.

However, that's usually not the cause of sound problems. I suggest following ALL the suggestions on this HowTo. It may or may not get your sound working, but you'll learn something, either way.

If this is a 3rd-party card, you may have to disable your motherboard's soundcard in your bios settings.
