Sound's like a problem (SOLVED)

Hey!

I am running Dapper on my Sony Vaio and most things are working real smooth but i have this weird problem.
My system sound is working properly but i cannot:
A: Play a CD
B: Use Amarok to play anything
C: Get Kaffeine to play any DVD's what so ever.

I read some other issues regarding sound but this has not helped me, so if anyone knows anything; please help me

I get this when i try to get the libxine-extracodecs:

root@tlindgren-laptop:~# apt-get install libxine-extracodecs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package libxine-extracodecs is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libxine-extracodecs has no installation candidate

I don't know what the problem is, but i cant seem to get my hands on this package.

My mistake. The first thing I should have asked is if you have updated your repositories. If not, there are easy to follow directions to do so here...

After upgrading, follow the directions on the page I first linked and everything should work fine.

Hey!

Thanks for your help, but i think that the base for this problem lies some where else. I have followed all these steps but i can't seem to get in contact with the 'sources' included in the sources.list.
When connecting to archive.ubuntu.com the IP adress is shown as (1.0.0.0) and i get a time out failure in the end.
I tried to change the source URL by adding /dists to the source line and had a little but not total success and i still cannot update my system.
In addition to this, i also still cannot download the libxine-extracodecs.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the software dept.

If You have any other ideas, please let me know

have you successfully used apt or adept to install any apps? are you only attempting apt-get from the command line vs using adept? if so, try adept (gui interface for apt).

the package you are seeking to install (libxine-extracodecs) is a multiverse app. do you have the multiverse ubuntu/kubuntu repositories enabled in apt/adept? if not, you will not find this app in your search. i don't think that multiverse is enabled by default. to enable it, open adept, view menu -> manage repositories. scroll down the list of repositories until you see the line starting with deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ with multiverse at the end. right click on it and select enable. hit the apply button at the bottom to save changes. go to the view menu again and hit manage repositories to go back to the repository app search screen. hit the fetch updates button...search again. haha....that didnt work for me. :P
