I just need a little help on sound in linux. I've been googling and quite frankly I'm lost. My SPDIF does work using ALSA, however more then one program at a time can't use it. For instance, I want the OS sounds to work while playing music at the same time in amarok. I've read about things such as software mixing/editing .asoundrc/asound.conf and its all quite confusing. Right now under sound settings in KDE(kcontrol->sound&multimedia->system sound) I have it set with hardware override to hw:0,2 (my SPDIF out). I also told it to resampel to 44kHz. Using those settings SPDIF works fine, in amarok I have it set to plug:spdif.
I want both OS sounds, and sounds from applications, such as amarok to both go through SPDIF, but not have any issues. I've read about things like alsa-oss emulation etc.., but I'm a little bit lost.
Thanks for any help.
