Inspiron 6400 ATI x1300 Widescreen

I have a dell Inspiron 6400 with a widescreen that normally runs at 1280x800. The best I can get is 1280x768. Here's my specs. Any help is most appreciated:

T2050 Centrino Core Duo 1.60ghz
1024mb DDR2 RAM
80gb HDD
ATI Radeon Mobility x1300 128mb
Intel Pro 3945 ABG Wireless
Internal NIC (Intel I think)
HD Audio
DVDRW+-dl/CDRW

My audio, wireless and wired NICs, touchpad (with scrolling), DVDRW/CDRW are all working.

Hi,

In your place I would try to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually to place only the resolution you want in place of all available...
First make a copy of the file in case of.

I installed 8.27.10 from ATI's website and I was able to get the correct settings when I login as my user, but the login prompt is at 1280 x 1024. It's just annoying. Other than that, the video is running fine stand-alone. One down. If I add a monitor to it, I can only get clone. It will not extend the desktop.
