USB & Zip Drive ( Not Mounted )

When I first install Kubuntu I saw the zip icon, and the usb external hard drive mounted....

did the updates, then...

rebooting the computer, I notice the zip icon was not mounted,
nor the external usb drive...

is there a way to fix this problem? or does this need a tweak?

There is a "fairly easy" (i.e. neither a CSci degree nor LPI certification is required) fix. Go to this site and read up to and including the section called "Built-in persistent naming schemes". That should make your life easier, but you will still have to mount the devices when you plug them in. I have a USB2 backup drive and a USB1 zip drive, so I can help with the lines for /etc/fstab, if neccesary.
