Unable to load printer driver

Expect others have experienced this problem, but could not find a response in the forum or elsewhere.

Trying to install a Lexmark E220. Found from linux.printing .org that the driver is Generic PCL 5e Printer hpijs works. It did work under Libranet 3.0.
Under Kubuntu System Setting .... printer wizard, I get to see the printer driver .But when I select it, I get
"Unable to load requested driver .... either driver does not exist or you don't have permission..."

When I do the above, I am in Administrator mode. So what am I doing wrong

I think you have to add your user name to the lpadmin (I may not have worded that correctly).

another thing you could try to set up your printer is this: in a web browser do:

http://localhost:631/admin

But no luck so far.

Looked really good using CUPS, but I hung on local 631 user id and password, which seemed to be my user id and password. But it did not like that nor using sudo.

When I searched for '*lpadmin*' on my system I found
file:///usr/sbin/lpadmin (a binary file) (the rest I have not looked at yet)
file:///usr/share/man/man8/lpadmin.8.gz
file:///home/gary/.kde/share/apps/RecentDocuments/lpadmin.8.gz.desktop
file:///home/gary/.kde/share/apps/RecentDocuments/lpadmin.desktop
file:///usr/share/cups/doc-root/help/man-lpadmin.html

Now it is too late to continue. I am turning in.

OK so I don't understand, but the printer works.

Here's what happened.

Web CUPS did not work because it wold not accept my user id or password.
Later foundout that setting that user id and password is done through
Setting>printer>Print Manager>Configure Manger>CUPS server. Likely that is OK now.

But, while I was looking around, I found the print driver I was trying to install on my desktop file:///home/gary/.kde/share/apps/RecentDocuments/Generic-PCL_5e_Printer-hpijs.ppd.desktop
How it got there, I don't know.
I started the printer wizard again and selected "other file" and browsed over to the address above. And the wizard accepted that.

Good news it works.
Hope this helps someone if they run into the same problems I experienced
