Kubuntu 6.0.6 on a Laptop

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advise on Kubuntu on a laptop. I am considering purchasing a used one and putting 6.0.6 on it. I was wondering if any brand is better than the next regarding detecting hardware, or any other issues that I might run into.
I have been looking at the "Compaq EVO N800c". any thoughts.?
I haven't used Kubuntu yet, but I will be making the transition (onto my workstation) as soon as my disc's arrive.
Again any advise would be greatly appreciated.

i run 6.06 on a Dell Latitude L400 and it worked great... it picked up everything right away...

I've been running Dapper on my new E1705. It's very stable and runs just great. I put a screen shot here in the Image Gallery.

I think the biggest thing to look at is having hardware that is supported. Like wireless cards in my case. I upgraded the card to the intel card over the Dell 1390 because the Intel card is supported natively. Its the small things like this that will make the difference. If you're any kind of gamer then you should really look for a Nvidia card over the ATI. Also consider getting the best screen you can afford.

Im semi-struggling on Alienware m7700a MJ-12.

Had to ndiswrapper the wifi, and still have conflicts with eth0.
No Linux drivers available for the integrated cam.
Havent tried to get the IrDA or the card readers going but they certainly havent been auto-detected and Im not confident.
Of the quick keys (of which there are 11) I have only been able to determine keycodes for 4 of them.
nVidia graphics card still giving me trouble.
RAID-0 was a nightmare.
BIOS and Kubuntu will not cooperate w.r.t. the clock.

Only advice is to get the specs for every piece of hardware on the laptop before choosing and search to see how others have done trying to get them set up.

Oh, and of course, dont install over Windows until you have used a driver back up utility to figure out what you have and what it was using to get them to work.
