    CanoScan Lide 20 problem

    Hello,

I found that several users have exact the same issues with this particular Canon scanner in ubuntuforums.org but without proper solution. The device is properly recognized both in xsane and kooka. The first time I tried to use the scanner it actually worked but when the lamp reached the end of the scanning surface it begun to make some weird terrifying noises...since than the lamp is stuck or jammed at the bottom of the device and keeps trying rolling down (plus the crazy sounds). It seems like the device doesn't exactly "know' what's the current position of the lamp and what are the scanning surface boundries or something. I reinstalled xsane backends and frontends, xsane, usblibs...no luck. In Windows XP everything works like a charm. I'll appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!

    Re: CanoScan Lide 20 problem

Quickly searching the web, I have found only a couple of mentions of this scanner jamming like you have had, but with no resolution. It would possibly mean reverting to libsane 1.0.16, or either compiling the current version (1.0.17) or the latest unstable snapshot from source, not necessarily an easy task.

An option is to check out http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html for a possible solution.

You should also add your experiences, and encourage the others with this issue to this bug:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/40682, so maybe it will get more attention

claydoh, thank you for your help and attention! I've reported my problem to the bug database, I hope there will be a solution soon. Maybe I'll try to revert to previous version of libsane as you recommended.

      Best regards,
      Dimitar
