ok i noticed this when i popped in the live-cd that i got delivered, the apps have not sound, i get it for my erros and boxes tha pop up. but amaork kaffeine, have no sound. and yes dmix everything is unmuted!! plz help i am a noob with kubuntu

Did you installed things about restricted format ? You will be able to read mp3 and all this, look in the wiki or after easyubuntu on the net...

Your running off the LIveCD and haven't actually installed the OS, correct?
And Your Sound card is pretty new, correct?
If the answer to both these questions is yes, I'd say that the LiveCD version you have is not up to date. A later version of the CD would provide support for the sound card.
If you opt to install Kubuntu on your PC, it should be a simple matter of running the update manager to enable support for the sound card.Comment

Just reread your post, what are you trying to listen to in Amarok and Kaffeine?
Out of the box, they do not support MP3, AVI, etc.
To enable support for them you need to install the following files.
libxine-extracodecs, w32codecs and libdvdcss2.
For legal reasons these codecs cannot be built into the distro, however they are available from several repositories.
