hi! well i have a laptop from compaq (ordered from hp but doesen't mater). It's a V2000.... having some linux issues with it lately (some other messages cover it... i try to give back what i can to the community. But let's face the facts i am an average user myself 
) Anyway...
it has a pad on it. I am pretty sure it's a synaptics touchpad (being that's the only kind of touchpad i know of...). Works fine as a mouse, but i can't configure it with ksynaptics. I'll change a setting (say, turn off tapping) and it will still tap.
Does anyone know what could possibly cause such a problem? (this is a newly installed system, by the way)
