    Mouse Problem

Ok, technically this is a windows problem, but it is also causing me headaches in Linux. Ok, so one day I was shloopin around (in XP because my kubuntu was feelin a little sick) and all of a sudden my mouse freezes...I become very perplexed. So I am sitting there, being perplexed, when all of a sudden the mouse starts working again and everythings cool, till it happened again, and again, and again. Finally one day, out of my hate for windows I do the old fashioned keyboard piano move (you know where you slide ur hand from one end to the other) and lo and behold something fixes the mouse, yes indeed upon further investigation it appears that when the mouse freezes a simple tap to the alt key fixes it :-/

Now, this is good and all except that the only reason I keep XP around is to play games, and when ur mouse freezes while you taking that head-shot, you arent too happy.

Lol and as to linux, my mouse does the same thing (it freezes), however in order for it to work again I have to unplug and replug the mouse, which gets really annoying after five replugs...

Because it seems to be affecting both operating systems I'm thinking maybe something with the bios, but IDK and any help would be greatly appreciated

i wouldn't assume bios... if it's doing this both places, the first thing that comes to mind is hardware. 2 things you can do to test if the mouse (or the controller in your computer) is dead (or dying)...

    1. try the mouse on a different computer. - if it fails, it's your mouse
    2. try a different mouse on the computer - if it fails, it's the controller in your computer
    3. try a different kind of mouse - if you're using a ps/2 mouse, try a usb mouse. - if it fails, it is you bios

If any of those don't work, there is a good guess what's wrong :-)

Lol I thought about doin that kinda stuff, cept the thing with windows is really confusing...why does pressing alt help?

I was thinking that the alt thing might mean something, but if it doesnt Ill just switch mouses (it is like 4 years old...)

      Thanks

knowing windows as well as i do (i'm A+ certified), i don't think that it means much of anything. windows is just weird like that.
