    Screen resolution?

    Hi,

I have just installed Kubuntu 6.06 and so everything seemed to be working fine. The major problem is that it seems to be stuck at 640x480 screen resolution. I have an old nVidia GeForce2 video card which it detects. It just won't let me increase the resolution or refresh rate. I know the card is capable since this computer runs Win98SE dual boot and I run it at 1280x1024 and 72Hz. Prior to loading Kubuntu, I had Linspire 5.0 on it which also ran at that same resolution. In searching this forum I found the suggestion to run
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
I tried this and when it got to the end, it hung and I had to reboot the computer. Now, when I try to reboot, it hangs on the blue Ubuntu boot screen. I can boot the "recovery" mode but then I don't know what to do to "recover." Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Re: Screen resolution?

    Hi,

First of all you should try to come back to a working X (by reconfiguring it in frame buffer driver for example) then, install the nvidia-glx drivers from repos...

    Cheers

      Re: Screen resolution?

I did finally get it working. I followed Method 1 from
      http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Latest_Nvidia_Dapper
and after a reboot, it came up with the higher resolution. What a hassle compared to Linspire or Xandros both of which found the card and allowed me to just set the resolution right out of the box. Now I'll run this for a while and see if I like it otherwise.
      Thanks
