you will have to use the buttons/knobs on your monitor to do so, I believe

      Re: Screen not centered

      Hi,
my monitor is centered using Ubuntu 6.06, using windows. Linux in generel has some problems with my settings. Suse 9.1 was moved a little to the right. Ubuntu 5.10 was moved a little to the right, it was fixed with Ubuntu 6.06, but here with Kubuntu 6.06, it's again a little of. I know I can do it on the monitor, but then I just have to change it back when I run the others OS.
Isn't there a way in Kubuntu where the screen can be moved. In Suse it is Sax2.
      Hope somebody can help.

        Re: Screen not centered

As kubuntu's graphical system (xorg) is completely identical to Ubuntu's, most likely installing and enabling nvidia drivers (sudo nvidia-glx-config enable) *should* fix that problem.

Using the stock 'nv' driver for me, my screen has always been a litle offset to the left, no matter which distro, video card, or monitor I have used over the years, until I install the accelereated nvidia driver. I have not had issues between linux distros in my multi-boot setups, but I have not dual booted to windows in years so I cannot attest to any screen positions differences there.

I have not seen a tool that does similar tasks like sax2 outside of suse (but I have not looked for one)

          Thanks a million Claydoh,
I'm not sure what worked but the screen is now centered.
I typed what you recommended, and then I got an error message, which told me to edit my xorg.conf, the drivers should be called "nvidia" instead of "nv" and then after a reboot, the screen was centered. Maybe it was just that??
          Anyway you fixed it.
          THANKS

            Re: Screen not centered

NVIDIA-driver correctly installed in Dapper Drake,
            'Driver nvdia' in xorg.conf, OK

Nevertheless... Screen position has changed, also after restarting PC (screen moved 1/4 inch to the left).
Not possible to correct screenposition with graphic tool "NVIDIA settings' (like in Windoze).

            HOWTO correct screen postition ?

              Hi
I'm not sure if it's just a "typo", but it should be nvidia, and not nvdia (without the second i)
              What worked for me, was:
              1) I installed the latest nvida drivers, then I typed sudo nvidia-glx-config enable, and that helpes to correct the problem, have you tried that??

              Hope it can help you

                Re: Screen not centered

Actually I believe there is a problem with nVidia's drivers. I have my configuration set up properly, but whenever I reinstall an OS and then install the nVidia driver, the screen gets offset by about a fourth of an inch. I have no problem adjusting it, but the thing is, when you adjust your screen to the nvidia driver, you are actually decentering it.

I have 2 computers connected to the same monitor through a KVM switch. One has an onboard graphics device, and the other has an nVidia card. Whenever I do a clean OS installation on both of them, I can switch between them just fine, screen positioned correctly in the center. After I install the nVidia driver though, the screen gets offset. The driver works, but I have to do an auto-adjustment to bring the screen back in the center. If I switch to the other computer, that one will now be offset, so I have to auto-adjust again.
