lspci or clicking Disply in System Settings crashes

    Help!!

I am running Ubuntu/Kubuntu 6.06 desktop on my PC, and if I type lspci in the terminal of either one, it crashes, locks up the PC, the screen freezes, the mouse cursor disappears, and the PC stops responding to the keyboard. In KDE, if I go to system settings and click on the Display icon, I get the same thing, so I suspect that it is a video card issue, but not sure.

I have an "ATI Technologies, Inc. Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS" (from xorg.conf), that worked well on older versions of *buntu. Well, I mean it didn't kill the PC when I typed lspci, or if I used the display setup in KDE.

In GNOME, I can go into System, Preferences and change the Screen Resolution with no troubles. The driver I am using is "ati" (from xorg.conf), and this issue has me stumped.

I am about to reinstall from scratch because I am so bothered by this. Has anyone else had this trouble? I searched the forums, but havent found anything useful. Better: has anyone else resolved this?

    Thanks!

I think it is a failing hardware issue! I tried it in a Live CD environment with both 6.06 and 5.10 and I found the same trouble. I hope it is just my video card, so I can replace it with a new NVIDIA card.
