    Yup...you're not alone, I'm with you :P

Looks like there already is (at least one) bugreport about it:
    https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu....15/+bug/47490

I wouldn't say it's normal, but it certainly isn't unheard of

Seems to be a common issue with ATI 9000+ graphic cards:
      https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu....15/+bug/47371

There is a workaround posted at the ubuntuforums, which identifies the new  /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 (from package 'xorg-driver-fglrx') as the cause of the bug:
      http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185033

I hope a fix will make it to the final release

I tried the workaround suggested at ubuntuforums, but it didn't work for me. Then, I just removed all the fglrx and linux-restricted-modules packages, and to my amazement I suddenly had excellent 3D acceleration! Apparently they added support for quite a few previously unsupported card in the "ati" driver. Cool!

I don't know if that will work in your situation, but if you haven't tried it yet I'd say it's worth a try, because fglrx has always been a pain in my experience...
