    Epson Stylus CX3700

I just bought an Epson Stylus CX3700 and upgraded from Breezy to Dapper to take advantage of the the 'gutenprint' which has all the drivers needed for the CX3700.
However I can't get it to print (apperently cups is broken somewhat) nor scan - XSane can't find any devices (I even tried XSane using kdesu).

Has anybody got the XC3700 to work with Dapper?

Should I try the drivers from Epson http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/DL1_spc_e.html ?

    Blessings,

    Nigel

I'd suggest looking it up on linuxprinting.org

      Re: Epson Stylus CX3700

i did a fake install to see the drivers available for the cx3700...there are 3 selections inthe driver section if you were to

kmenu > system settings > printing

and add printer. the 3 i see are:

      EPSON Stylus CX3700 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc2 [English]
      Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint-ijs.5.0)
Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint) [recommended]

have you tried using all of these drivers try the recommended one first, if it doesn't work, try the top one, and so on. Also, when you goto print a test page, do not click ok until either it has printed, or after a minute you get no output.

there is the page concerning your printer at linuxprinting.org. you can check out the generic instructions for CUPS and see if that helps. good luck, and keep us posted on the outcome.

The first try I used the EPSON Stylus CX3700 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc2 [English] driver which gave an error message and no test page.
I then 'deleted' the printer from the KDE print mamager and added it again, this time using the
Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint-ijs.5.0) driver which works
All I need to do is upgrade the computers on out home network to Dapper so that they too will have the new gutenprint drivers (I tried it already with Breezy but there are no drivers available ).

BUT, something strange, the first attempt at configuring the printer I only had the choice of either the
        EPSON Stylus CX3700 - CUPS+Gutenprint
        or the
Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint) [recommended].
The second [successful] attempt only gave the choice of
        EPSON Stylus CX3700 - CUPS+Gutenprint
        or the
        Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint-ijs.5.0).
The Epson Stylus CX3700 (Foomatic + gutenprint) [recommended] had disapeared

Anyway I am now working on the scanner ......
I am going to subscribe to the 'sane' mailing list to ask some questions (I already searched their archives but nothing definitive - but, according to one poster, it does work after tweaking some config files).

        Blessings,

I got the scanner working by adding:
'usb 0x04b8 0x0818' (without the quotes) to /etc/sane.d/epson.conf

            output of 'sane-find-scanner':
            found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x0818) at libusb:001:002

I then had to change the permissions on /proc/bus/usb/001 and /proc/bus/usb/002 (including their files) to owner = root; group = scanner.
I then added all users to group 'scanner'.

I was not sure about how to restart everything so, being a bit tired, just did a reboot

            Blessings,
