no sound card in dapper and other hardware drivers disappering

i did the update / dist-upgrade to dapper
and the system went wild, i don't have sound, and can't find my soundcard
the webcam went awol, and the eth0 card was lost
don't know how i got the eth0 card back i know the system asked me to search the eth0 driver to install from a list, but that's all
any idea? where to look? what to look?
i've been all day long trying stuff and looking around in the forums (kubuntu and ubuntu) and yet i don't even know whats wrong

    Hello,

last I heard, a "distro wide upgrade" is not a good thing to do, but we know that now..........

Personally I would do a complete re-install with Dapper Drake, not the latest beta though..........

distro wide upgrade, nop good, not good.
but I learned 2 or 3 things with that problem.
I'll do the fresh install, of course, but probably will try the dist-upgrade for the sake of learning again (lol)

what i couldn't find was the typical "read-more/known-issues" with the dapper beta

The 6.06 Beta2 install cd seems to be pretty stable so far, installed a couple of days ago and no major problems, the "live" cd version also worked well for me on my Acer 3500 Aspire, all hd picked up etc, WiFi took me 3 mins to setup.

I think I'll wait a little more, to the beta3 maybe, to see how's going. After last time and the on-going reconfiguration of breezy, well, I'll get to try betas and playing around the day i get a second computer for that kind of stuff. Now using the one I use for working is not a so brilliant idea, right?
          lol
