    hard drives not seen...?

I have 3 hard drives in my system... My Operating Systems are on seperate removable drives. I swap Windows XP and stick in Kubuntu and away I go.

I have 2 other hard drives in my system too, which Windows can see. One of them (according to windows) has reformatted itself, which has left me with having to use recovery software to get the data back, and another drive that has a Windows 2000 install from a machine that got taken to bits... there are some files on it I want to salvage.

I can see the drives under windows without any problems (apart from the reformatted one)
I can access the data on the win 2000 one and play music files from there etc... BUT under kubuntu they don't get listed under storage media?

I understand that they may need to be mounted? How do I do this? They show up in the disksand filesystems area but seemed to be neither enabled or disabled. Sorry for the waffle but can anyone help fix this for me?

    Hi,

If they are IDE drive, you should be able to play around by this:
    sudo mkdir /testmount
    sudo mount /dev/hd[a-d]1 /testmount -t ntfs

first look which letter of drive you're using (by mount) and play with the 3 other... You should find two letters which will answer well...
If you want a map of which letter is which drive, it's like this :
    First IDE master : hda
    First IDE slave : hdb
    second IDE master : hdc
    second IDE slave : hdc
    ...

If you're using SATA or SCSI disks, it should be the same but with sd (instead of hd)

    Hope it helped
