Sata error on brand new disk??

I have a brand new PC mounting M2N-E Sli motherboard with AMD 64 X2 Processor, POV GF7600GT graphic card and a SATA2 Hard Disk. I installed Kubuntu 6.06 and every time I shutdown an endless list of following errors is produced, blocking the shutdown till I have to do it manually. I suspect that something went wrong in the disk partitioning or formatting. Am i right?
    Thank you for help
    Alberto

It is dying in the cradle... As I wrote, it is absolutely new. Either it is a factory defect or there is some other problem. Somebody suggested it could be a cabling problem...
