    Wayland not very Groovy

I installed the Wayland desktop package so that I could try it out on Groovy Gorilla. I get the choice message on the sign-in screen, but when I choose Wayland and type in my password, the screen goes dark and freezes. Is there something else I need to do? By the way, my version of Groovy is an upgrade from Focal, not a clean install.

probably not, it can very much depend on the video card/driver (Nvidia is at the very best terrible with Wayland still) Upgrade vs clean install is not likely an issue here.
You would need to try starting a wayland session manually to see if there are any specific errors to investigate.

alt-f2 at SDDM, then log in at the tty and run startplasma-wayland

I have little issue with Wayland per se on Intel graphics, but for me there are enough little niggles to keep me from using it more.Mostly old habit and personal prefs things many may not even notice. It has improve noticeably with each new plasma release, however .
Automatic laptop touchscreen rotation, in Plasma 5.19, or 5.20. No on screen keyboard, at least I could not get it to appear without manually enabling it for each application's desktop file. And its Qt only, so useless for web browsing.

Gnome is much further ahead with Wayland, or so I hear. I have not tried visiting the Dark Side in some time

I have a Nvidia card. so that's probably it. Although it did work on Neon using virt-manager. I can wait until it's more bug-free. Thanks for the info.

I'm sure that there are ways to get it working, as people with Nvidia do have some success with wayland. As for virt manager unless you have specifically set up a gpu passthrough you are probably using the default 'fake' emulated gpu.

No idea if the proprietary Nvidia drivers or the nouveau ones are preferred for this at the moment.
