20.10 freeze with Nouveau driver

Hello,
I am having trouble with my NVIDIA G98M [GeForce 9300M GS] card + NOUVEAU driver under Kubuntu 20.10 (kernel 5.8, KDE-Plasma 5.19.5). My system freezes frequently. I have been using the proprietary nvidia 340.108 driver under Kubuntu 20.04 (kernel 5.4) alright. Unfortunately my graphics card is not supported after kernel 5.4 anymore. Any chance of fixing this unbearable situation (except for getting myself a new laptop)?
Interestingly - I experience these freezes mostly with Chromium-based browsers, such as Chrome or Vivaldi. Very annoying.

Hello again,<br>Vivaldi-support suggested disabling
Hardware-Acceleration in System Settings. It seems to have "done the
trick" - has worked o.k. for quite while now.
